TaylorMade R11 Vs. Burner SuperFast 2.0: Club Face

I had intended to write a “final” review of how my new TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0 preformed on the course today but I injured my thumb on my glove hand, thus that review will have to wait. No golf for Jay today! Even though I want to play one my round of 18 before going into detail about this driver, I have clocked 3 driving range sessions and 1 full round to this point and I have noticed something rather interesting about the Burner SuperFast 2.0 verses all the other TaylorMade drivers I have used over the years: its face. What I have found in my experience thus far with my Burner 2.0 is that I have much greater success off the tee when I tee the ball up about 1/4 to 1/2 inch lower than with all my prior drivers, including the TaylorMade R5, Tour Burner, and the 2008 Nike SQ. I used to tee the ball so its equator was about even with the top (or crown) of the driver’s face at address. With the face of the Burner SuperFast 2.0 being black I noticed all the ball marks were on the very top of the face. I found this a bit odd, but once I “figured it out” and teed the ball a bit lower, I gained 10-20 yards! That is rather significant. Since I could...

TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0: Proud Moment

I plan to do a full review regarding my new TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0 and its performance on the course very soon, I just want to get at least one more round in, in the spirit of thoroughness. However, I have to share this story with you of my round today simply because I am proud of my performance (and of the TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0’s). As you may know by now, my average drive is around 150-170 yards, so for many par 3’s I have my driver in hand. I was looking at this particular par 3, hole 17, for about 15 minutes before the foursome ahead of me finally vacated the green. As they were doing so I head a rumble. Note the clouds in the distance. Well, that was it, I could be patient any longer. I suddenly had visions of the scene in Caddyshack where the priest gets hit by lightning as he’s having the round of his life! I had 2 holes to go and of the three proir par 3’s I had driven them on a rope right at the pin with this TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0! So I had to get going! I teed it up and for the third time, on a rope, right at the pin! See below the ball circled in yellow, not bad off a driver huh?! With...

TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0 on the Practice Range

Today I had the first opportunity to do some range work with the TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0. A gentleman I converse with on twitter regularly who is an instructor and inventor of the “ZoomBoom” training aid, Lance McWilliams suggested after seeing the data from my last blog that I try hitting 7 shots with my driver and 7 with my wedge, switching between each. He then simply asked me to let him know the result. Well, sir, here it is!… Here is Lance’s Twitter Page, I recommend you follow...

TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0 vs Tour Burner Driver

I have been a TaylorMade “fanboy” since my first TaylorMade driver purchase, the R5, and I am not ashamed to proclaim said adoration. I fell in love with that club after the very first swing! The golf ball just seemed to rocket off the face of that club compared to the others I was hitting at the time (knock-off Big Bertha’s, first gen.). Just like most of us who are completely addicted to golf, I like to upgrade my equipment when I am able. For the purposes of this comparison article I will not go though a listing of all my upgrades, only to say that I brought my 2008 Tour Burner out of retirement after coming to the conclusion that my R9 was not a good fit for my game. I will say though as of the date I write this, I shall be interred with that R5!! With that said, on to the topic at hand, the 2011 TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0 versus the 2008 Tour Burner. I first hit the Burner 2.0 in March of this year and had a less than stellar impression, but that was due to the fact that I had been shoveling snow and not cracking drives down the fairways. Now, 3 solid months of play later and in the process of getting my first golf handicap, I feel my game and...
