Golfing in the Rain: Part Two

Two Blog posts prior to this one I wrote about some of the “good” things that come with golfing in the rain. Feel free to refresh your memory here. Well it seems I angered the Golf Gods and they decided to show me what real rain was! A line of storms arrived just as I arrived at the course, I had to wait that one out in the bar for about an hour. It was not too bad and it thoroughly saturated the course yielding the slow conditions I like. As I paid for my round, I asked the attendant what the rest of the afternoon looked like as far as the radar was concerned. He responded, “Should be no more than a few showers”. I thought, “OK, I can dig that”, and went out. Well, first hole was a beauty, tee shot right in the middle of the fairway sitting about 190 from the middle of the green. I then hit what may well be the best (and longest) 3-wood off the deck in my golfing career, I reached the green! That’s right! I was on a par 4 green in 2! Mind you, where the pin was placed that day, I had a 50-plus foot putt for birdie. Hey, it can happen! But not as likely after a torrential downpour, I 3 putted for a double bogey....

Too Hot to Play Golf

Is it too hot to play golf? In a word, Yes! At least for me, when the thermometer goes above 90 degrees coupled with humidity above 60%, I just cannot enjoy a round of golf. Let alone justify the cost of the round knowing I’m just going to suffer for 4 or more hours. Two weeks ago I had two days off, a luxury that has been hard to come by as of late. However, since the heat index was over 95 degrees each day, I elected to remain inside in the air conditioning. This past Monday it was just as hot but it had been over four weeks since I had touched a club, let alone played a round. Needless to say, the “itch” got the better of me and I decided to brave the heat and play a round of 18. The high was 93, but I had two things going for me, first, it was mostly cloudy, and secondly, I had the Frogg Togg Chilly Pad. I admit that I was looking for an excuse to test out my new Chilly Pad. I can say without any hesitation, this product was a life saver! It is similar to a “Sham-wow” in the way it absorbs and holds water, but it has a textured side that is the “cool side” and it really is significantly cooler than...

Golf Fitness and Workouts

I have decided to share with you some of the golf-centric workouts and fitness routines that I concentrate on when I cannot play. Normally, I will hit the gym hard during the winter months to stay in “golf shape”. As I write this however, it has been over 3 weeks since I have been on the course, due to a minor injury and having to work my “day job” without a day off. So my final review of how my new TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0 preformed on the course, for those who have been paying attention, will have to wait at least 2 more weeks. Believe me, I am just as disappointed about that as you, if not even more! I have been able to get to the gym during this hiatus from my addiction. So I dug up and reposted three of the workout videos I had made in the event that some of my newer readers had not yet seen them. Of the three, the first one deals almost exclusively with core strength and mobility. Here is a link to a few different varieties of Body Bars on Amazon similar to the one I am using in the video above. What you see in this first video you can easily do at home if you do not have access to a proper gym. The second video is...
